Progress at Oak Manor

July 21, 2011

Construction of this new build house is in two phases. Phase 1 is in the early part of the construction process. Steel beams arrived on site this week to allow for the installation of the block and beam first floor.  The phasing of construction is to facilitate our clients remaining in residence at the existing house until phase 1 is complete. The existing house will then be demolished and phase 2 will proceed.

Progress at Acorn Farm

The conversion and renovation of this historic farmhouse is midway through the construction process. Roofing works have now been completed and the first stages of internal carpentry work are progressing well. The soul of the building has been meticulously maintained throughout and a clear historic timeline is evident. The property incorporates vast amounts of original internal timbers which have been beautifully restored by our master craftsman.

Progress at Elm Barn

The Barn Conversion at Elm Barn is almost complete. Construction has been sympathetic to the original barn, retaining many of its original features, using traditional construction techniques.

Construction News – Appointment to Editorial Advisory Board

Robin Sporn has been appointed to the SME Editorial Advisory Board of Construction News. The appointment will involve contributing to various articles which will be running in the new dedicated section for SME in the Construction News Publication. The section will run fortnightly.

Health and Safety Executive commends Sporn Construction Ltd

A HSE inspector made a drive by visit to one our sites this week. The inspector commented that the clear implementation of Health and Safety Regulations was of a very high standard. He went on to report the site was very organised and tidy and further that all members of staff on site had the relevant PPE and safe working conditions. The inspector summarised his report by saying such standards are rarely achieved by construction companies the size of Sporn Construction Ltd.

Progress at Oak House

Construction of Oak House is  ahead of programme.  The oak frame is complete and SIPs panels in place. Construction is currently focusing on the detailed and challenging roof lantern and chimney stacks.

Construction begins of Oak Manor

April 20, 2011

Construction of Oak Manor started this month. A large prestigious home  in Oxford. The project will be constructed in 2 phases to allow the clients to remain in residence on site.The current building on site will be completely demolished during phase 2 of the project.The programme for the build is in excess of 12 months. The house  incorporates a “green sedum roof”, ground source heat pumps, and mechanical heat recovery to the main house. In addition there is  an air source heat pump system to be installed in the outbuilding.

Progress at Maple Cottage

The  renovation of Maple Cottage is almost complete. The property is Grade II listed. The final quality assurance pre completion checks are due to take place the middle of next week. The cottage has an abundance of  original features which have been beautifully restored.  Materials and building techniques sympathetic to the original construction  have ensured perfect fusion between the old and the new without compromising the historic soul of the building.

Issue 7212  7th April 2011      Sporn Construction were in the press again this week, in Construction News- the publication is voted number one by the construction Industry.Robin Sporn was approached by the editor of  Construction News to contribute to an article  on low-carbon construction. We are extremely proud to have been involved in such a prestigious publication.

Robin Sporn, along with other MDs from some of the largest construction companies in the UK, has been invited to the head office of Construction News next week to attend a breakfast meeting to contribute to a series of special supplements to look at the challenges in delivering radically lower carbon built environment.

Construction at Oak House is ahead of program. The construction involves the restoration and extension to an existing property. The extension incorporates a green oak frame coupled with SIPS panels.
